Terms of Service

These terms govern your use of appliederudition.com and the Applied Erudition platform (“AE,” “we,” “us”). By using the site or creating an account, you agree to them. If you use AE on behalf of an institution or employer, you agree for that organization, and any separate written agreement with that organization controls where it conflicts with these terms.

1. What AE is, and what it is not

AE measures demonstrated capability through benchmark workouts and records the results as dated standings on your profile. What your profile shows publicly is up to you.

AE does not teach. It does not grant degrees or academic credit, and it is not an accredited institution. A standing is AE’s assessment of your performance on specified workouts on a specified date. It is not a license, a professional certification, or a promise of employment or admission.

2. Eligibility and accounts

You must be at least 18 to create an account.

One account per person, in your own name. You are responsible for keeping your login secure and for activity on your account. Before you can publish a standing, we may ask you to verify your identity.

3. Membership is individual and voluntary

You join AE yourself. No one can enroll you.

An institution or employer (a “sponsor”) may pay your membership fee. Sponsorship pays the fee; it does not give the sponsor ownership of your record, access to your private runs, or authority over your account. If a sponsorship ends, your record stays with you, and you may continue on your own membership.

AE does not permit sponsors to make membership, or any AE result, a condition of grades, enrollment, or program completion.

4. How assessment works

Workouts, rubrics, and the integrity floors are published before you attempt anything. Scoring may combine automated checks, AI-assisted evaluation, and human review. Some workouts require a recorded voice defense in which you answer questions about your own submitted work.

You may use AI tools, references, and other resources while preparing work unless a workout states otherwise. The defense must be yours: no one else may answer for you.

5. Integrity floors

Every workout, in every domain, is subject to five integrity floors:

  1. Fabrication: inventing data, results, sources, or figures.
  2. Uncorrected material misrepresentation: asserting something your own work does not support, and not correcting it when given the chance.
  3. Refusal to defend: declining to explain or answer questions about your own submitted work.
  4. Suppressed conflict: failing to disclose an interest or incentive a reasonable reader would want to know.
  5. Collusion: having a coach or anyone else complete, materially alter, or pre-answer assessed work, or asking them to.

Violating a floor fails the attempt and blocks standing in that domain until remediated under our published process. We may remove a standing if we later find it was obtained through a violation. Honest error is not a violation: a wrong answer, corrected when found, is scored as a wrong answer, not treated as misconduct.

6. Review of results

You may flag any result for human review within 30 days of receiving it. We will re-review it and tell you the outcome.

7. Your work and your record

You own what you submit. You grant AE a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store, process, and score your submissions and recordings, to display whatever you choose to make public, as described in our Privacy Policy, and to use de-identified data to calibrate and improve assessments. We do not publish your submissions or recordings.

8. AE’s materials

Workouts, rubrics, software, and the Applied Erudition™ name and marks belong to AE or to the domain experts who authored them. You may read, discuss, and prepare from published workout materials. You may not copy them into a competing assessment product, redistribute assessment content commercially, or scrape the site.

9. Acceptable use

Don’t:

  • impersonate anyone, share an account, or let someone else perform for you;
  • access AE by automated means, including scraping profiles;
  • probe, test, or interfere with AE’s security or systems;
  • use profile information to harass anyone or for bulk marketing.

10. Fees, renewal, and cancellation

Fees are shown at purchase and processed by our payment provider. Annual memberships renew automatically unless you cancel. We will remind you before each renewal. You may cancel at any time from your account or by emailing us; cancellation stops the next renewal. Membership fees are non-refundable; see our Refund Policy.

We may change prices with at least 30 days’ notice; a change applies from your next renewal.

11. Suspension and closing an account

You may close your account at any time. We may suspend or close an account for violating these terms or the integrity floors. We will tell you why, unless the law prevents us.

12. Disclaimers

AE is provided “as is.” We work to make every assessment fair, published in advance, and reviewable, but we do not guarantee that the site will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that any third party will rely on a standing.

13. Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, AE is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, and our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of what you paid AE in the 12 months before the claim or $100.

14. Governing law

These terms are governed by Louisiana law. Disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts serving Lincoln Parish, Louisiana.

15. Changes

We will post changes here with a new effective date. For material changes, we will notify members by email at least 30 days before the change takes effect.
